Pie birds

Pie birds (or pie funnels as they’re sometimes known) are simple steam vents that are placed in the middle of pies when cooking, to allow the steam to escape and prevent the pie’s contents from boiling over. They also act to support the pastry crust in the pie’s centre, to prevent it from sagging.
